A passenger travelling from Jeddah to Kano on Saudia Airlines on September 24, 2026, has shared a complaint about what they described as a stressful travel experience involving a significant flight delay, a missed domestic connection and difficulty retrieving a mobile phone that fell inside an aircraft ventilation opening.

According to the passenger’s account, the Saudia flight from Jeddah (JED) to Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (KAN) was delayed by approximately two hours. Flight-tracking records for Saudia flight SV401 show that the flight was scheduled to depart Jeddah at 5:50 a.m. on September 24 but was recorded as departing at approximately 9:34 a.m., with the flight listed as delayed.

The passenger said the delay had a knock-on effect on their journey, causing them to miss a connecting flight from Kano to Abuja.
Phone falls into aircraft vent
The travel disruption was followed by another problem on board the aircraft.
The passenger said there was an open vent beside their seat, and their phone accidentally slipped from their hand and fell inside the opening.
According to the account, members of the cabin crew attempted to retrieve the phone but were unable to reach it. A mechanic was subsequently called to assist.
The passenger alleges that the mechanic did not properly listen to their explanation of where the phone had fallen and repeatedly instructed them to leave the aircraft.
By the time the passenger reached Abuja, the phone had still not been recovered.
The passenger said that Apple’s Find My feature continued to show the device at the airport/aircraft location, raising concerns that the phone could still be inside the aircraft or somewhere within the airport environment.

What happened with the missed Kano–Abuja flight?

Missing a connecting flight because of a delay can create additional costs and logistical difficulties for travellers, particularly where the flights are booked separately.
The circumstances surrounding the passenger’s Kano–Abuja ticket, including whether it was booked on the same itinerary as the Saudia flight, are not clear from the complaint. This distinction can be important when determining what assistance or rebooking arrangements may apply.
Nigeria’s aviation consumer-protection framework provides specific rights for passengers affected by flight delays. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) states that, for international flights, passengers affected by delays of 2–4 hours are entitled to refreshments and certain communication assistance, while longer delays can trigger additional assistance.
The NCAA regulations also require airlines to provide passengers affected by a delay of at least one hour with information about their rights, including applicable compensation and assistance.
However, whether those provisions apply to a particular passenger’s missed connection depends on the circumstances of the booking, the delay and the applicable carriage arrangements.
Saudia’s response has not been established
At the time of writing, the account available for this report is the passenger’s complaint. There is no response from Saudia included in the information provided for this story, so the airline’s explanation for the delay, the handling of the phone incident and the passenger’s missed connection cannot be independently established from the complaint alone.
Saudia provides an official Guest Relations channel for complaints and feedback concerning completed flights and services.
For passengers who believe an airline has not adequately addressed a complaint, the NCAA advises passengers to first approach the airline’s customer-affairs unit. If the matter remains unresolved, passengers can escalate the complaint to the NCAA Consumer Protection department.
A reminder for travellers
The incident highlights how a relatively short flight delay can have consequences beyond the original journey, particularly when a passenger has a separate connecting flight.
It also illustrates the importance of reporting problems involving aircraft equipment or lost personal belongings before leaving the aircraft, where possible, and keeping records such as boarding passes, ticket details, baggage information, photographs and correspondence with the airline.
For this passenger, however, the immediate concern remains the whereabouts of the missing phone and whether it can be recovered from the aircraft or airport.
Global Convoy Travels and Tours will continue to monitor the situation and any response from Saudia or the relevant aviation authorities.
